Leadership

Development Program

Leadership training is structured development that builds a person’s ability to set direction, influence others and create the conditions for a team to perform — as distinct from management training, which builds the ability to organise work and run processes. Training Edge International delivers customised leadership training in Singapore for senior executives, newly promoted leaders and high-potential successors.

What Is Leadership Training?

Leadership training develops the capability to set direction, align people behind it, and build an environment where a team can do its best work. It targets judgement, influence and self-awareness rather than technical or procedural skill — which is why it relies on practice, feedback and reflection rather than instruction alone. In Singapore, leadership training is most commonly commissioned for three groups: senior leaders facing a strategic shift, managers newly promoted into leadership roles, and identified successors being prepared for a bigger seat.

Leadership Training vs Management Training: What’s the Difference?

Management is about running the work: planning, allocating, monitoring, correcting. Leadership is about direction and people: setting a compelling direction, influencing across an organisation, making judgement calls under uncertainty and building capability in others.

Most people in a team-leader or department-head role need both. The practical distinction matters when choosing a programme: if your managers are missing deadlines, running poor one-to-ones or avoiding performance conversations, they need management training. If they hit their numbers but cannot set direction, influence peers or grow their successors, they need leadership training.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: What is leadership training?

A:  Leadership training is structured development that builds a person’s ability to set direction, influence others and create the conditions for a team to perform well. It focuses on judgement, influence and self-awareness, and is usually delivered through workshops, coaching, simulations or multi-module development journeys.

Q: What is the difference between leadership training and management training?

A:  Management training builds the ability to organise and run work — planning, delegating, monitoring performance and solving day-to-day problems. Leadership training builds the ability to set direction, influence across an organisation, make judgement calls under uncertainty and develop other people. Most managers benefit from both.

Q: How long should a leadership training programme be?

A: A single two-day workshop can build specific skills, but durable leadership behaviour change generally requires a spaced journey of three to six modules over three to six months. Spacing matters because leadership skills are learned by applying them at work between sessions and receiving feedback.

Q: Who should attend leadership training?

A:  Senior executives leading through strategic change, managers newly promoted into leadership roles, and high-potential employees identified as successors. Programmes should be grouped by level, because the challenges facing a first-time leader and a business unit head are materially different.

Q: Do you deliver leadership training for regional teams outside Singapore?

A:  Yes. Training Edge International delivers leadership programmes in-person across Asia Pacific and virtually across regional time zones, with cases and scenarios adapted to the markets participants operate in.
